We are an award-winning specialty coffee roastery founded in 2015 and based in Brixton, London.

Beginnings

In 2014, a small team of people working for established south London specialty coffee roastery Volcano Coffee Works brought together the UK’s leading independent specialty coffee shops and restaurants to share their experiences and define the ways in which a roastery could most effectively fulfil its role in the specialty coffee value chain.

After six months of conversations, there was a clear vision for a new roastery that would source the highest quality specialty coffees in the world through the lens of its customers.

The roastery had to be innovative, responsive, dynamic and consistent in how it supported its wholesale partners as the specialty movement developed. 

In practice, this meant:

• The roastery would only source coffees that met the needs of its customers and never for its own gratification
• The offering would be informed by the continuous accumulation and evaluation of quantitative and qualitative data from across the coffee supply chain
• It would commit to always challenging existing mechanisms of value creation
• It would operate in ways that made it a sustainable business in the long term.

In April 2015, we launched Assembly Coffee as headline sponsors of the inaugural Coffee Masters at London Coffee Festival and there began our journey.

Purpose

A team of 30, we’re a B-Corp and Carbon Neutral-certified business guided by our two core beliefs that:

• The whole is greater than the sum of its parts
• Everything can always be better.

We're excited by innovation and its potential for impact. With this as our motivation, we seek out opportunities to collaborate with anyone who shares our vision and supports our goal to set the leading example for the specialty coffee movement, in: 

• roasted coffees that are the pinnacle of quality
• innovation in how quality is communicated
• redefinition of how coffee can be sourced to return greater value to farming communities. 

Our coffee is served in leading independent cafes, premium restaurants and luxury hotels in London, the UK, Europe and beyond. And our beans are brewed at home by coffee drinkers all over the world – from Manchester to Manilla, from Sheffield to Shenzen.

A shared commitment to quality drives forward our long-term partnerships with pioneering producers, hospitality operators, scientists and academics. All of us working to advance speciality coffee as a fair, sustainable and impactful value chain.

Visit us in Brixton, London and pull up a seat in Door – Coffee Bar – our on-site café where we serve our house coffees, favourite filters and extra-special limited edition releases. Open Monday to Saturday, all year round.
